The class encourages experimentation and personal expression, with plenty of room to develop your own ideas. Some prior experience with clay is recommended — students will get the most out of this course with a basic familiarity with hand-building techniques — though all levels are welcome to join.

Figurative Sculpture: The Female Form

In this six-week sculpture course, students will develop a figurative ceramic sculpture of the female form under the guidance of Michelle Shanahan. You'll investigate the structure, gesture, and surface of the human body — learning to translate weight, movement, and emotion into clay. Each week builds deliberately on the last, moving from core form-building through refined surface work and final finishing. The course emphasizes personal interpretation over technical perfection, and encourages each student to develop their own sculptural voice.

Some prior handbuilding or sculpture experience is recommended. All skill levels are welcome, but students will get the most out of this course with a basic comfort working with clay.
